Former right hand man not in line for Old Trafford return.
Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen has revealed that the club’s new manager Louis Van Gaal rejected the chance to bring him to the club despite 12 years service under Sir Alex Ferguson, according to the Daily Mirror.

The 50-year-old departed Old Trafford after 12 years association with the Red Devils to take over as manager of Fulham, but has revealed that he approached the new regime about a possible return, only to be told that there is no place for him any more.
However, Meulensteen – who was sacked by Fulham after two months in charge – confirmed Van Gaal rejected the advances and opted to bring in his coaching staff.
“I spent 12 years at what is a fantastic club and never left Man United because I fell out with anyone there.
“They’ve chosen to appoint Louis van Gaal and he has decided to bring in his own people so that is not an option.
“Have i spoken to Van Gaal? Yes, I know that is the case – it has been confirmed to me.
“It is disappointing. There aren’t many coaches who have spent so much time with one club as I have. You would think it would make sense to have some continuity.”
