It appears that Rodgers is being rewarded with a hefty transfer war-chest following his side’s successful return to Champions League action and as such has the funds to make offers for some of Europe’s top talents.
Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana is still very high up on the Anfield radar with a £25m bid having been made for the England international according to the BBC.
The 26 year old had a standout campaign for the Saints last term, scoring and regularly providing assists, helping the south-coast side to a top half finish.
The playmaker has helped Southampton from League One up to the upper echelons of the English top tier and may feel that it’s time for a ‘step-up’ and the chance to compete at Champions League level and major honours would surely tempt Lallana.
Having seen boss Mauricio Pochettino leave for Tottenham the St Mary’s side will struggle to keep hold of their best talents with Lallana and left-back Luke Shaw expected to follow Lambert to a Southampton exit.
Southampton turned down an opening bid of £20m but £25m may be an offer they choose to accept, though 25% of any fee they agree will go to Lallana’s former club Bournemouth.
Rodgers may see Lallana as a long term replacement for veteran skipper Steven Gerrard.
