Italian football journalist and constant transfer market commentator Tancredi Palmeri has tweeted some new information about the future of Barcelona and Spain midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

It was expected that the 27-year-old star would move to Chelsea to replace the outgoing Frank Lampard, but according to the journalist, Manchester United are still very interested in his services, and could look to trump the Blues to his signature by offering significantly more wages.

However, the Red Devils are yet to have a transfer offer accepted, and wouldn’t be able to offer Fabregas the Champions League football his ability undoubtedly warrants.

United badly need midfield improvements this summer, and have been heavily linked to Bayern Munich’s German legend Bastian Schweinsteiger in recent days as well.

With Ryan Giggs retiring, and doubts over the suitability of Tom Cleverley, Marouane Fellaini andeven Michael Carrick in the centre – midfield signings are new manager Louis van Gaal’s priority.

However, with most of the world’s best players currently in Brazil right now for the World Cup, it may not be until after the tournament that deals are officially concluded.
