Louis van Gaal has named Alexis Sanchez as one of his key transfer targets this summer as he looks to completely revamp his Manchester United squad ahead of his first season in charge, reports The Guardian.

The Barcelona winger enjoyed a successful season in front of goal at the Nou Camp, netting 19 times in just 34 La Liga appearances, however, he has continually been linked with a move away from Catalonia.

New Barca coach, Luis Enrique, has not made clear whether he wants to keep the Chilean at the club or not, but that will not stop top sides around Europe trying to secure his signature over the coming weeks.

Van Gaal will have the chance to see Sanchez up close as his Netherlands side takes on Chile in Group C of the World Cup. This may also be a chance for the Dutchman to make contact with the forward.

There are set to be wholesale changes at Old Trafford this summer and the forward line is likely to be re-jigged significantly. The likes of Ashley Young, Nani and Javier Hernandez could all be heading towards the exit door, creating space for Sanchez to arrive.

With Van Gaal and Sanchez busy at the World Cup, it is unlikely that any deal will be done in the near future and United fans may have to wait until late July to see much movement.
