Diego Costa deal gets complicated!
Chelsea were said to be on the verge of signing Atletico Madrid goal machine Diego Costa weeks ago.
However, no deal has yet been officially struck because both clubs are keen to tie other players into the mix, according to AS.
Chelsea must pay €40m for 25-year-old Costa, who scored 27 La Liga goals last season, as well as netting eight times in the Champions League.
After much delay, it was thought that the deal would be completed following Spain’s elimination from the FIFA World Cup, but negotiations appear to have become more complex.
Young Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois spent the past three seasons on loan at Atletico, where he has established himself as one of the world’s finest stoppers.
Atletico are keen to have him for another year at least, but, with Petr Cech currently out injured, Blues boss Jose Mourinho is reluctant to let the 22-year-old go again.
La Liga champions are also interested in signing 21-year-old striker Romelu Lukaku on-loan.
Chelsea are open to the idea of sending Lukaku, who has shone during loan spells at West Bromwich Albion and Everton in the past two seasons, to Atleti.
However, Mourinho is hopeful of using Lukaku as bait to sign left-back Felipe Luis, who has a £21m buyout clause in his current Atletico contract.
