Chelsea Want £8m For Liverpool Target Bertrand

The Blues are demanding a big fee if they are to let their unwanted left back head to Anfield.

Chelsea are demanding £8 million if they are to let Liverpool target Ryan Bertrand leave the club this summer, report the Express, despite the Englishman having struggled to make a significant impact for either his parent club or Aston Villa last season.

The Reds are on the hunt for a new left back, with manager Brendan Rodgers seemingly unimpressed with the performances of Spaniard Jose Enrique and keen to move young Jon Flanagan to his preferred position on the right hand side of the defence.

The young Englishman, who Chelsea signed as a teenager from Football League club Gillingham, played a surprise starring role in their Champions League victory two years ago but has since failed to establish himself as a genuine part of the first team squad at Stamford Bridge.

He was sent out on loan to Aston Villa last season and, despite not disgracing himself, his performances were not of a sufficient quality to make Liverpool’s reported approach for the player anything other than a huge surprise.

Whether Brendan Rodgers is keen enough on the player to sanction the paying of such a significant fee to a team who represent one of the club’s biggest Premier League rivals remains to be seen.
