Bayern Munich have been linked with a surprise move for Liverpool backup goalkeeper Pepe Reina, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Bavarian giants are on the lookout for a backup keeper themselves, with manager Pep Guardiola keen on signing someone to act as cover for Manuel Neuer, who is the undisputed first choice at the Allianz Arena.

Former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes has also been linked with a move, but may be less willing to accept a place on the bench, while Reina has also been linked with a similar move in the past, supposedly emerging as a target for Barcelona as a number two goalkeeper.

The 31-year-old has not been first choice at Anfield for the last couple of seasons, with manager Brendan Rodgers moving to sign Simon Mignolet last summer, in a move which then saw Reina go out on loan to Serie A side Napoli.

The Spaniard has been unable to seal a permanent move to the Italian club, however, and his future remains in doubt as the start of the new season approaches.

Bayern now look to be surprise suitors for the Reds outcast, though they are yet to make an official approach to the club for the player.
