Gus Poyet says talks are still on with Liverpool for Borini.
Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has still not lost hope of signing 23-year old Italian striker Fabio Borini from Liverpool as he claims to be in talks with the Reds for the services of the youngster.
Poyet stated that Borini’s shoulder injury has halted the Black Cats’ march towards signing the hitman, while many reports in the past several weeks have suggested that the former AS Roma forward may have refused to go back to the Stadium of Light.
Borini impressed with the Black Cats on-loan last season, netting 10 times in all competitions for them, and has also attracted a £14 million bid from the Wearside club.
Liverpool too are keen to sell after getting a good offer for their squad player, but the attacker reportedly wants to prove himself on a bigger platform by staying put at Anfield.
Poyet meanwhile, still harbours hopes of signing him.
“He is being assessed now for his shoulder injury,” the Uruguayan was quoted by the Daily Express.
“That’s stopped everything a little bit. We will see. I have not held talks with him, but the club has, although that’s private. We know where we stand.”
