Monk says Bony is not leaving Swansea.
Swansea City manager Garry Monk says Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur target Wilfried Bony will not be leaving the club this summer despite their interest.
Both have been keeping tabs on the 25-year-old after he scored 27 goals in all competitions during his debut season at the Liberty Stadium in 2013/14 following a club record £12m switch from Vitesse Arnhem.
The Reds are thought to be leading the race as they look for an alternative to Loic Remy after their £8.5m deal to sign the QPR striker fell through.
It was believed the lure of Champions League football in 2014/15 would be enough to convince Bony to leave South Wales for Anfield, but Monk has quashed the speculation.
“No, nothing [on the forward’s future], it’s exactly the same as it was at the start of the summer. Speculation will always be speculation,” the 35-year-old told talkSPORT.
“The good thing for us is that we’re in control of everything, no player will leave unless we decide it and we think it’s good for the club.
“And from Wilfried’s performances throughout our pre-season campaign I think you can see exactly how committed he is to Swansea City.”
It now seems that if Brendan Rodgers of Mauricio Pochettino do want to recruit in attack this summer then they will have to look elsewhere.
