Why This £5m Barcelona Star May be an Ideal Man United Summer Signing

Old Trafford side should have Nou Camp wing-back on their summer shopping list.

Man United boss Louis van Gaal has quite a task in front of him with the former Ajax, Bayern Munich and Barcelona boss having to repair an Old Trafford squad that could only secure a seventh place Premier League finish last term, could wide-man Dani Alves be an ideal summer signing to help in a pursuit of major honours in 2014/15?

The 31 year old has been strongly linked with a Barcelona exit and could be available for as little as £5m if sources are to be believed.

Whilst clearly van Gaal should be looking to long term solutions to his squad’s lack of quality in ‘problem’ areas there is also a case for making big name additions that act as a real statement of intent by a club in need of salvaging their reputation following David Moyes’s, mercifully brief, reign.

Alves is a proven player of the highest quality and a player who is a damn sight better qualified to fill a right-back berth than the likes of Rafael, Luis Antonio Valencia and Chris Smalling.

Arguably the Man United defence is one key area in need of investment, not least given the departure of veterans Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand, and having successfully landed teen Luke Shaw to replace Juventus bound Patrice Evra a move for Alves to do likewise on the right-hand side of the back-line would do wonders.

Alves may well feel a move to Man United suits his career progression and as well as being solid on the back-foot the Brazilian is also adept at making a real impact in the final third.

The former Sevilla man has won it all during his six season spell at the Catalan giants and a move away from Barcelona is clearly one that will require much soul searching, the chance to join a Man United side under the leadership of a proven manager like Louis van Gaal may well just prove very tempting for Alves and it’s a move the Dutchman should consider.
