Having seen his efforts to land QPR striker Loic Remy collapse Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has turned his attention to Man City bit-part player Stevan Jovetic.

CaughtOffside understands that Rodgers has ‘sounded out’ the Etihad Stadium side over a summer move for the Montenegrin international, who started just two Premier League fixtures last term.

The former Fiorentina man is behind Sergio Aguero, Alvaro Negredo and Edin Dzeko in Manuel Pellegrini’s pecking and given that no member of that illustrious attacking trio has left this summer one would imagine that the cultured forward is set for another season of warming the Man City bench.

Man City forked out £22m for Jovetic last summer and Rodgers is willing to offer up £17m for the 24 year old, a fee the Premier League title holders may well consider as they look to adhere to UEFA’s FFP (Financial Fair Play) guidelines.

Rodgers rates Jovetic highly and has convinced Liverpool’s owners to back him with the funds to make a tempting bid for his services.

The fact that Liverpool are fighting on numerous fronts this season, and with new signing Divock Origi being loaned back to Lille, Rodgers is urgently looking to sign a striker who can help fill the void left by Luis Suarez’s move to Barcelona.

Jovetic has shown enough promise in recent seasons to convince Rodgers that the Man City man is an ideal man to help add options in the final third.

Prior to his move to England Jovetic had enjoyed a five season spell in Florence, scoring 27 goals in 63 appearances in his last two campaigns.

Last season though his chances were limited Jovetic still managed to score six goals in all competitions having started five matches.
