Liverpool have set their sights on the signing of Schalke striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar as a possible replacement for Luis Suarez upfront, according to the Daily Mirror.
The experienced Netherlands international is said to be in talks with a number of clubs over a move this summer, with Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur known to be among his admirers for some time now.
After rising to prominence with Ajax, Huntelaar has also played for the likes of Real Madrid and AC Milan before finding some of the best form of his career in the Bundesliga with Schalke, though he has struggled with injury problems in recent times.
Still, Liverpool are in need of new signings upfront and hope to enter the running for the prolific 30-year-old after seeing a move for Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy fall through earlier this summer due to a failed medical.
Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi is reportedly being considered as well, and may be a more realistic target as Huntelaar seems to be leaning towards a move to Turkey.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has already been busy this summer, bringing in big names such as Adam Lallana, Lazar Markovic and Dejan Lovren to improve his squad.
