Manchester United have confirmed that Adnan Januzaj will take the number 11 shirt vacated by club legend Ryan Giggs this season, the Daily Mirror reports.
The Belgian winger is widely regarded as one of the most promising players at Old Trafford and up there with the best young talents in the world, and he will now have some big boots to fill as he takes Giggs’ old number.
The Welshman called time on a long and glorious playing career at United at the end of last season, and will now serve as assistant manager to the club’s new head coach Louis van Gaal.
Elsewhere, new signings Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera take the numbers 3 and 21, respectively, while Brazilian midfielder Anderson has a shirt change from 8 to 28, with his original number being vacated when he moved on loan to Fiorentina in January, with new signing at the time Juan Mata taking that number when it became available.
Big numbers such as 5, 7 and 9 remain available, and it could be that these spaces will still be filled by new signings, with a number of big names currently being linked with moves to the Red Devils before the end of this summer’s transfer window.
