The Swiss international had been heavily linked with a move to Anfield following his impressive performances in South America, but the Reds also had competition from the likes of Serie A side Juventus.
After learning that he was supposedly unsettled in Bavaria, Brendan Rodgers looked to set a move in motion for the 22-year-old as he looked to be heading for the exit.
News of his departure had seemingly ground to a halt since the end of the World Cup, with many believing that a deal was dead in the water, but speaking ahead of the new season Shaqiri said that though he believes he could remain a Bayern Munich player, things could conspire to change that in the near future.
“I am a player of Bayern Munich as I am under contract with the club. Basically, I believe I will be staying on at Bayern Munich,” Shaqiri said.
“But as long as the transfer window is open, anything could happen in the very end.”
