Liverpool’s move for experienced former Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o could be in jeopardy for the strangest of reasons, with the Mirror reporting that French police want to question the experienced frontman over allegations that he posted intimate photos of an ex-girlfriend online.

The Reds had been linked with a surprise swoop for Eto’o, who had a reasonable goalscoring record for Chelsea last season and would represent a reasonable short-term solution to Brendan Rodgers’ striking dilemma.

That move could have been throw into turmoil by the news that a Parisian judge has ruled that Eto’o should be investigated, following a complaint by ex-girlfriend Nathalie Koah.

Eto’o has been accused of posting intimate pictures of Koah online, an offence that the report suggests is taken particularly seriously in France and could pose real problems for the Cameroonian striker.

With Eto’o likely to have been more of a back-up option for Rodgers than one of his first choice targets, it may mean that the Northern Irishman has to put even more energy into securing a top class centre forward following Liverpool’s opening game of the Premier League season at Anfield this afternoon.

With just Daniel Sturridge and Rickie Lambert as options upfront for Rodgers, however, it seems certain that an attacking signing will be forthcoming for the Reds.
