Premier League clubs will learn their fate this afternoon as the draw for this season’s Champions League group stage is made in the Grimandli Forum in Monaco.
Liverpool are back in Europe’s top club competition after a four-year absence and could potentially come up against difficult opponents as they enter in pot 3, meaning they could potentially be drawn alongside both Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
Arsenal confirmed qualification for the tournament with a 1-0 aggregate win over Besiktas on Wednesday night and will be alongside Chelsea in pot 1, while Premier League champions Manchester City are in pot 2 again.
English clubs have not fared too well in the Champions League in recent seasons, with Chelsea the only representative in the semi-finals last season, and with no Premier League clubs making the last four the previous year.
These teams will be hoping that big-name signings such as Diego Costa, Alexis Sanchez and Mario Balotelli can help their cause in the competition this season, and they will know a little more about their journey in Europe this season when the draw is made this afternoon.
