Manchester United are set to continue a busy summer in the transfer market after agreeing a £14 million fee with Ajax for the transfer of Daley Blind, report the Mail, as Louis van Gaal looks to arrest the side’s alarming start to the new season.
Blind was a star performer for van Gaal this summer as part of the Netherlands side that reached the semi-final of the World Cup and has the versatility and quality to add plenty to the United side.
The Ajax star, who has been awarded the Dutch player of the year award, had an exceptional season for Ronald de Boer’s side as they claimed the Eredivisie title before embarking on his adventure in Brazil.
The £14m fee that has been agreed will continue to take United’s spending skywards, following the British record transfer that was secured for winger Angel di Maria this week, who was part of the Argentina team that dumped the Netherlands out of the World Cup on penalties.
Blind is capable playing as a defensive midfielder, at left back or as a centre back in van Gaal’s favoured back three system, making him the kind of fluid and versatile player that should thrive under the new United manager.
