The Barca veteran had been heavily linked with a move away from Catalonia during the summer with Manchester United and Bayern Munich thought to be interested in his signature while a big money move to either Qatar or the MLS was also on the cards.

Despite several clubs wanting him, Xavi has revealed that he couldn’t imagine playing for anyone other than his beloved Barcelona.

“If it was up to me I’d never leave Barcelona,” the 34-year-old was quoted as saying by AS.

“I could have left many times but my feelings always won out.

“I told the club that I didn’t want to play for another team in Europe; I didn’t want to play against Barcelona.

“I would like to end my career here. But circumstances are what decide these things.”

Xavi’s current contract with the Spanish giants expires in 2016 when he will be 36.

Barcelona have started the season strongly under new coach Luis Enrique, currently topping the La Liga table with three wins from three games.

The 22 time La Liga winners start their Champions League campaign tonight with a home match against Apoel Nicosia.
