Luke Shaw hasn’t featured in a competitive game for United so far this season.

Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen claims Louis van Gaal doesn’t rate full back Luke Shaw, who moved to Old Trafford in a £31.5 million deal during the summer, Talksport reports.

The former Southampton left back hasn’t featured for his new club so far this season despite being on the bench for the Red Devils last two games.

The deal to sign Shaw was reportedly agreed by the United hierarchy before van Gaal was installed as manager and now that the Dutchman has signed Marcos Rojo, it looks as though the Argentine will be his first choice left back this season as he has started the last two games in that position.

Asked whether he feels that van Gaal  doesn’t rate Shaw, Meulensteen, who was an assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson for many years, replied: ”Yes. It’s a big surprise for me.

”He would have been informed by the club that they were putting this bid in for Shaw because he’s an up and coming player.

”He’s got a good left foot and a lot of pace. He’s got a lot to learn to get to a Man United level though.

”He’s a great prospect but he’s brought Rojo in, which is bad news for Shaw.”

United have started poorly so far this season, winning just one of their first five games and currently sit 12th in the Premier League table.
