Ten players that scored against their former clubs.
This weekend saw Frank Lampard do what he never thought he’d have to do – score against Chelsea. The former England man’s strike continued a trend that is often inevitable but always heartbreaking, and his muted celebration showed that he wasn’t exactly thrilled about it either. With that in mind, we decided to trawl the archives to bring you a few more instances of players hitting the back of the net against their old sides, for better or for worse.
William Carvalho Arsenal – Gunners return with improved offer for Sporting star
Sami Khedira Chelsea – Blues agree deal for Madrid ace
Victor Valdes Liverpool – Reds close in on former Barcelona stopper
Glen Johnson – Liverpool vs Chelsea
The England international saw his career stall somewhat during a stop-start four-year spell with Chelsea, so when Liverpool visited Stamford Bridge three seasons ago there was some incentive for him to pull something out of the bag. The travelling Liverpool fans were distracted by the figure of Fernando Torres warming up for the Blues having just completed a whopping £50m deal to join the Blues. However, they were given something to cheer when Charlie Adam (yes…Charlie Adam) picked out the marauding full-back with a peach of pass to send him slaloming through the defence to slot home and take three points back to Merseyside.
