(Video) Thomas Vermaelen Scores First FC Barcelona Goal: Former Arsenal Captain’s Attacking Prowess Could Win Him Place In Team

FC Barcelona summer signing Thomas Vermaelen scores first goal for Camp Nou club in friendly against Indonesia U19s. Watch the video here.

Former Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen has had to watch from the sidelines as Jeremy Mathieu, Gerard Pique and Javier Mascherano have staked their claim for a central defensive role.

The Belgian has suffered with injuries since signing at Camp Nou, but showed his impressive goal threat with this terrific header from a corner.

Vermaelen is a proactive defender who likes to push upfield, so a position in Barca’s high line could work well. This comfort on the ball, along with his ability to strike from range when coming forward with the ball could allow him to thrive given the time he will be allowed in possession in the more open Spanish league.
