Reds could pounce for unexpected striker deal.Liverpool are said to be on alert as Napoli may consider selling out-of-form striker Gonzalo Higuain for just £31m, according to Fichajes.com.
The Argentine goal-poacher has been one of the best strikers in Europe in the last few years, previously attracting strong interest from Arsenal as he was made available by Real Madrid last year.
However, he instead made the move to Serie A, enjoying a rich run of form in his first season as he scored 24 goals in 46 appearances to then spark more transfer speculation this summer.
Napoli have previously been keen not to sell, though surprise reports now suggest that they could let him go as he has suffered something of a dip this season, scoring just three times in his first seven games of the new campaign for Rafael Benitez’s side.
Liverpool could take a chance on him as they continue to look for top-class signings upfront, having sold Luis Suarez to Barcelona during the summer, and with star forward Daniel Sturridge proving somewhat injury prone in recent times.
The Reds have also been linked with big names such as Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema as they continue to pursue additions in attack.
