Former Chelsea manager Ruud Gullit has slammed countryman Louis van Gaal for causing Manchester United’s central defensive injury crisis, the Metro reports.

Gullit claims that the former Bayern Munich boss does not understand the Premier League yet and has criticised him for spending so much of United’s transfer budget on attackers but not signing adequate central defensive reinforcements.
”How on earth is it possible that such an experienced and successful manager thought he could start the season at Man United without buying a couple of really strong central defenders?” Gullit said.
”I am still amazed by his buying and his transfers. If you only strengthen the midfield and the attack, than you are underestimating the level and the power of the Premier League.
”If you want to survive in the top flight of English football, you start with the foundation and you build the roof of your house last. Van Gaal has done it the other way round.”
Van Gaal spent a British record £59.7 million on Angel Di Maria and also bought other attacking players like Radamel Falcao and Ander Herrera during the summer.
However, the Dutchman only bought two defenders, Marcos Rojo and Luke Shaw, meaning he didn’t adequately replace Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra, who all left Old Trafford at the end of last season.
