Manchester United youngster on the verge of earning a huge new contract…
Manchester United defender Paddy McNair is set to be handed a bumper new contact by manager Louis van Gaal, after a series of impressive performances for the club’s first team.
Reports on Goal.com claim that McNair is set to agree a new deal which will see him earn 10 times his current weekly wage, an envious 900% pay rise. The 19-year-old has been thrust into the first-team setup this year, playing in the wins against West Ham and Everton.
According to the source, fellow United youngster Tyler Blackett is also poised to sign a new deal, and McNair has been told talks over a contract extension will progress in the coming weeks.
The centre-back has just under 12 months remaining on his current contract which is worth £2,000-a-week – and his new deal will see him earn a significantly larger sum.
Van Gaal has been delighted with the performances of his young defenders so far this season, with the duo outshining the likes of Marcos Rojo and Luke Shaw, who cost the club a combined £46m this summer.
Speaking about McNair, the Dutchman said: “He [McNair] is modest and calm also. Normally, when you are playing in the first team for the first time, you are quiet. That is the case with most players, so it’s no big surprise.
“What is more important is he knows what he is doing and why he is doing it. He has trained with us for a full week for the first time and he is doing great. I’m very pleased with him.”
