The Red Devils have confirmed that Victor Valdes has been offered the opportunity to train with the Manchester United.

Manchester United have confirmed on their official website that Victor Valdes has been offered the chance to train with them, as he completes his recovery from a knee injury.

According to the statement, Louis Van Gaal, who gave Valdes his break in the Barcelona side in 2002, has invited the Spanish keeper to Carrington to have his recovery supervised by United’s medical staff. He will then train with the first team.

Vades is currently a free agent after his Barcelona contract expired in the summer. After he tore his cruciate in March, a planned move to Monaco fell through and the keeper was left without a club.

A move to Liverpool, who are looking for competition for the struggling Simon Mignolet, looked set to happen, but their interest appears to have cooled.

No goalkeeper has won more Champions Leagues than Valdes, who won in 2006, 2009 and 2011. He also won six La Liga titles, along with a host of other trophies and individual honours. He is known as an exceptional shot-stopper, with the two-footedness and calmness necessary to play in goal for Barcelona.

With the exception of a brief period in Tenerife, the Barcelona native has been with the Catalan club since 1992.
