Red Devils eyeing Schalke duo.
Manchester United are reportedly monitoring Schalke pair Julian Draxler and Benedikt Howedes ahead of the January transfer window, according to Bild.
The Red Devils are seemingly ready to rival Arsenal in the pursuit of £37m-rated Draxler, whose fine form in recent years has seen him become regarded as one of the most exciting young players in Europe.
The German international seems likely to leave Schalke for a bigger club in the near future, and could be the latest big name to make his way to Old Trafford in a big-money move after the club spent heavily on the likes of Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao this summer.
United manager Louis van Gaal is also keen to strengthen defensively, and this could also see him make a move for Draxler’s Schalke team-mate Howedes, who has been another top performer in the Bundesliga in recent times.
The 26-year-old is a highly versatile player who can operate in either full-back position or at centre-back and would no doubt make a useful signing for this United side, which has leaked goals so far this season.
Other defensive players have also been linked with the club ahead of the winter transfer window, but it may now be that Howedes will make the move to Manchester along with Draxler.
