Carvalho has been linked with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea during the summer transfer window and is one of the most exciting defensive midfield prospects in world football, possession both the physical attributes and technical class to become one of the most imposing footballers in the world.
Sporting are well aware of the potential of their star asset, however, and are unlikely to want to allow Carvalho to leave the club for anything other than top dollar in January, particularly if they progress ahead of Schalke and Maribor in the Champions League, leading to a huge price tag of £37m.
With Steven Gerrard heading into the twilight years of his career and Lucas Leiva little more than a bit-part player at Anfield these days, the Reds need to start looking at options for the future in the holding midfield positions and Carvalho would certainly fit the ball if they can fight off their Premier League rivals.
