Liverpool To Move For £10m Premier League Goalkeeper To Replace Underperforming Mignolet

Reds eye up January move for Asmir Begovic.

Liverpool are eyeing up a £10 million January swoop for Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic, report the Mirror, with Brendan Rodgers seemingly having grown tired of first choice Simon Mignolet’s constantly underwhelming performances in a red shirt so far this season.

Mignolet has never looked like a player who deserves to be number one at a Champions League club since the Belgian moved from Sunderland to Anfield and there has plenty of talk this season about Liverpool upgrading, with former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes touted as a potential replacement.

It would seem that Brendan Rodgers is eager to stay closer to home and bring in a proven Premier League performer, however, with Stoke’s Bosnian international Begovic totally fitting the bill on that front.

Begovic has been one of the most impressive and consistent goalkeepers in the Premier League since replacing Thomas Sorensen as first choice at the Britannia Stadium following a move from Portsmouth and his reputation has grown as big as his giant frame since.

Despite his impressive performances, however, Begovic has less than two years left on his Stoke deal and Potters chief would be loathe to lose their star asset on a free transfer, potentially opening the door for a £10m Anfield move.
