United switch focus to three new targets.
Manchester United will turn their attention elsewhere after learning that Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels is set to choose a move to Arsenal this January instead, according to the Daily Express.
The Red Devils are eager to strengthen at the back, but look set to miss out on one of their main targets as Hummels prepares to leave Dortmund for a move to the Emirates Stadium, in a deal possibly worth £30m.
This will no doubt be a massive boost for the Gunners, who are also in desperate need of reinforcements to their back four this season, following an unconvincing start in the Premier League and Champions League.
Still, United are in a similar position and have missed a number of key players through injury, exposing the lack of depth and quality in their squad at the moment as Louis van Gaal makes new plans to keep on spending this January after a busy summer spent mostly strengthening his attack.
These three defenders now seem to be the Dutchman’s main focus for the next transfer window:
3) Ron Vlaar (Aston Villa)
A solid Premier League defender, Ron Vlaar looks likely to be leaving Aston Villa in the near future and is now one of the players on United’s radar.
