Sadly, the bizarre lack of promotion and relegation in the US means we won’t see them in the MLS in 2015, but the Scorpions will still take great pride in their achievement. Lots of fans believe the NASL is the true home of US football – after the original NASL went bust in the late 1980s.

They beat Fort Lauderdale Strikers 2-1 in the final, a game which included an awesome goal from an overhead kick by Colombian midfielder Rafael Castillo.

The attendance was 7,847 – a record for the NASL’s championship game. Most of them invaded the pitch after the match as the Scorpions celebrated their title.
