The Spaniard was signed by Manchester United before van Gaal was appointed manager, and it seems the Dutchman would prefer to bring his own player in to control the midfield.
Bayern Munich are allegedly desperate to sign the Manchester United man, but with Herrera only joining for £30m this summer the Red Devils will want to recoup some of the money they splashed on him.
The Bundesliga champions recently revealed that Swiss star Xherdan Shaqiri would be available in January, and Bayern boss Pep Guardiola is hoping that a bid of £7m plus Shaqiri will be enough to convince United to part ways with Herrera.
Herrera hasn’t exactly been a failure since joining this summer, so van Gaal may want a little more for the midfielder. If he is interested in Shaqiri however, then this could prove to be a deal that benefits both sides.
