Nou Camp superstar linked with shock move to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are reportedly hot on the trail of Barcelona star Lionel Messi with the Argentine apparently keen on following his close friend Cesc Fabregas to Stamford Bridge according to the Daily Express.
The 27 year old has been strongly linked with a surprise Nou Camp exit of late though a move away from the Catalan side would still be a massive coup for the Blues but perhaps one that billionaire owner Roman Abramovich is capable of pulling off.
Comments made by Messi recently certainly do little to quash speculation of a summer transfer;
“Today I live in the present. I want to make a great year and win titles with Barcelona.
“Then we’ll see, football takes many turns. While I always said that I would always stay there, sometimes not everything happens the way you want.”
A move to sign Messi clearly wouldn’t come cheap indeed some sources it would take a fee of as much as £200m to land the four time Ballon d’Or winner.
Abramovich may well feel that such an outlay would be repaid by promotional and sponsorship deals and of course a massive spike in kit sales and one imagines an upsurge in efforts on the field of play to boot.
Mourinho snapped up Fabregas in a £30m deal over the summer and the Spaniard has made an instant impact since returning to the Premier League and is the English top tier’s leading assist maker.
