Liverpool star Raheem Sterling will cast off his teen sensation tag soon as he approaches his 20th birthday, but the youngster has already become a man according to Brendan Rodgers, as reported by the Mirror.

Rodgers claims that Sterling has stepped up a level in the new campaign, with the young Englishman often a shining light in a so far disappointing Liverpool season.

The Merseyside man will turn 20 on Monday, so his side’s game against Sunderland this weekend will be his last as a teenager.

As one of Liverpool’s standout players over the last year however, Sterling has already had to take on more responsibility than most players his age would ever have to.

The Reds boss believes it is this responsibility that has allowed him to mature quickly and become such a vital part of the club at such a young age.

“He has taken on extra responsibility, absolutely, and kicked on. I have reiterated to him his qualities and strengths, his pace, skill, his directness – that’s his game,” said Rodgers.

Sterling has been instrumental in any and all success the club has had this season, and Rodgers will need to keep him fit and firing if he is to have any hope of rescuing what has so far been a disastrous season.
