Jan Vertonghen looks likely to leave White Hart Lane this January.

Tottenham Hotspur centre back Jan Vertonghen looks increasingly likely to depart White Hart Lane during the upcoming Winter transfer window, with the Mirror reporting that Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool are all lining up a move for the Belgian international once the window reopens.

Vertonghen has been a largely consistent and impressive performer for Spurs since joining the club from Eredivisie giants Ajax, but he has appeared off colour this season after confirming that he would not sign a new contract and was interested in a move away during the summer.

The potential availability of Vertonghen has alerted some of Spurs’ Premier League rivals, all of whom are monitoring the player’s situation ahead of possible January moves – with all three having been linked with numerous defenders as they look to strengthen at the back.

A move from Spurs’ bitter North London rivals Arsenal would be particularly controversial, but the Gunners could certainly do with another player of Vertonghen’s class at the back, whilst both Liverrpool and Manchester United fans have had to endure their defences struggle for organisation and consistency throughout this season ahead of their Sunday meeting at Old Trafford.
