The former Socceroo sustained a hip injury in the 0-0 draw with Melbourne Victory in mid-November which was subsequently diagnosed as an injury to the lateral cutaneous nerve of the thigh.

Sydney FC boss Graham Arnold rued the loss, but said he would actively seek a replacement for the 35-year-old.

“It’s disappointing to lose a player of Sasa’s calibre for the rest of the season,” Arnold said.

“I will be speaking with Chief Executive Officer Tony Pignata to discuss suitable replacements.”

The Sky Blues have suffered a wretched run with injury of late, with Ali Abbas, Corey Gameiro and Nick Carle ruled out for the rest of the season with knee injuries.
