Premier League rivals compete for midfielder signing.
Liverpool are hoping to beat Arsenal to the signing of Manchester City midfielder James Milner, who is available on a free transfer at the end of the season, the Daily Express reports.
The Reds want to see off competition from the Gunners to land the experienced England international, who seems increasingly likely to leave the Etihad Stadium after stalling on a new deal.
Milner has not always been a regular for City in his time with the club, though he has managed to help the side to two Premier League title wins in three seasons in recent times.
The 28-year-old is a versatile and hard-working player, making him a useful member of Manuel Pellegrini’s squad, and he’s not one the club will want to see join a rival for free.
Both Liverpool and Arsenal could do with more in midfield, however, and are now likely to step up their interest in the player between now and the summer as he ponders his future.
