The 20 year-old will be going into a Championship club very much on the up under new manager Neil Lennon, however, with the former Celtic boss having managed to guide the Trotters towards safety since replacing Dougie Freedman after a dreadful start to the season by the Lancashire club.

Powell will be looking to refind the form that he enjoyed down the road at Wigan Athletic in the second tier last season, with the former Crewe Alexandra trainee becoming one of the most exciting attacking midfields in the division and helping the Latics into the play-offs, where they were beaten by QPR at Loftus Road.

He joined Leicester alongside fellow young midfielder Tom Lawrence from Old Trafford in the summer, with the Welshman arriving on a permanent basis, but neither have been able to have any real impact on Nigel Pearson’s first team in the East Midlands as the Foxes have fallen to rock bottom of the table on their return to the top flight.
