Arsenal and Liverpool Step Up Chase For Premier League Contract Rebel

Premier League giants hoping to lure Winston Reid away from Upton Park.

Arsenal and Liverpool are set to fight it out for the signing of West Ham United contract rebel Winston Reid, report the Metro, with the Premier League rivals set to intensify their interest in the New Zealander after West Ham completed the signing of defender Doneil Henry from Cypriot outfit Apollon Limassol.

Reid is out of contract at Upton Park at the end of the season, and the Hammers have so far shown little inclination to be willing to meet his huge wage demands, potentially opening the door to a cut price deal in January as bigger clubs, including both Arsenal and Liverpool, look to strengthen their defences.

Former FC Midtjylland central defender Reid has been one of the Hammers’ stand out performers this season as they have risen to the fringes of the Champions League places under Sam Allardyce, with his partnership alongside James Tomkins at the heart of defence crucial to their success.

Arsenal, in particular, have suffered from a lack of defensive stability and cover this season, with very little at Arsene Wenger’s disposal beyond first choice partnership Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker, potentially making Reid the ideal signing.
