The Dutch international defender has been heavily linked with an Aston Villa exit in recent months, and it looked as though he was set for a Premier League stay. Rafa Benitez has set his sights on the Villains captain however, so Vlaar could soon be plying his trade in Italy.

Vlaar has allegedly accepted personal terms with the Serie A giants, with a deal on the table worth €1.7m per season plus add-ons. Aston Villa are yet to accept the meagre €2m that Benitez has offered though, so the deal is yet to be finalised.

The dominant defender’s current contract expires as the end of the season, so if Villa are unwilling to let him go this month then he will be allowed to move for free at the end of the season.

It is believed however, that it is only a matter of time before the deal goes through; with Napoli just needing to sell Paulo Henrique to make room for the 29-year-old.
