Chelsea transfer news
The 26-year-old is currently on loan at Serie A side Fiorentina, but is apparently keen on a return to the Premier League.
Having turned down a contract extension offered by Manchester City, Richards is free to sign a pre-contract as he heads into the final six months of his deal. Fiorentina have allegedly already offered the him a permanent deal, but the England international is yet to accept.
Chelsea are relatively short in numbers at the back, and are arguably just one or two injuries away from a crisis. Jose Mourinho may see Richards as a solution to that problem, although the Man City man is unlikely to be content with another bit part role at a big club.
Liverpool have also been credited with an interest in Richards, with Glen Johnson presumed to be on his way out of the club.
