Gerrard announced last Friday that he would be to leave Anfield at the end of this season – the only club he has ever served throughout his famous career.
The veteran midfielder, who retired from international football in the summer after a disappointing 2014 World Cup captaining England, provided more assists than anyone else in the Premier League last season, but the frantic pace of the Premier League has seen Reds boss Brendan Rodgers opt to manage his skipper’s minutes domestically this term.
Despite this, Gerrard is Liverpool’s top goalscorer this season, and his heroics were once more on show as he secured his team a place in the next round of the FA Cup last night against AFC Wimbledon with two goals.
Liverpool fans will be devastated to see the end of their Anfield hero, and no doubt tears will be shed come the 34 year-old’s goodbye at the end of the season.
