Reds to sign striker Jay Rodriguez if he gets the all clear after a serious knee injury.

Liverpool are one of three Premier League clubs who could be set to step up their interest in signing Southampton and England forward Jay Rodriguez, report the Mirror, so long as he is given the all clear once he ramps up his return from a serious knee injury that has kept him out of action for the Saints since April.

Southampton have done brilliantly in the absence of Rodriguez with Graziano Pelle performing the lone striking role impressively for new manager Ronald Koeman, who is yet to see Rodriguez perform for his team, meaning that the Saints could consider cashing in on a player yet to contribute for them during this fine season.

The report suggests that Rodriguez is hoping to be given the all-clear by doctors next week to return to action after a frustrating spell on the sidelines, that also forced him to miss out on the World Cup just when he looked like a potential option for Roy Hodgson.

Liverpool, who have struggled for goals in the absence of Daniel Sturridge this season, are one of three clubs said to be awaiting the verdict with baited breath, although both Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are also said to be interested.
