Liverpool brought Lambert in from Southampton last summer but much like fellow signing Mario Balotelli the veteran attacker has struggled for form.

A lack of goals has led to a limited role in Liverpool’s first team set-up thus far but Lambert has been promised more action by manager Brendan Rodgers.

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert had made a £5m deadline day swoop for this namesake but the struggling Premier League side failed with their approach.

Lambert netted a dozen plus goals in his two top tier seasons at St Mary’s but has thus far bagged just two Premier League goals this term, though he has only started five matches.
