Louis van Gaal apparently was considering making a January move for the centre-back, but decided against it. This has not put the 63-year-old off making a move after the end of the season though, but he will have to fight off interest from Premier League rivals Chelsea if he wants to sign the 21-year-old.
The Frenchman has found it hard to get a starting place at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu with Sergio Ramos and Pepe seemingly preferred in the middle of the back line. This has led to the rumours linking him away from Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
The Red Devils are on the search for defenders with the current crop looking uncomfortable playing in van Gaal’s preferred three at the back system.
