Louis van Gaal’s philosophy finally seems to be working…
Despite much criticism for his tactics and results from supporters and press alike, it looks like Louis van Gaal will have the last laugh as it turns out his Manchester United side have won more points in the last 15 league games than any other team.

Sam Allardyce hit out at United’s tactics in a high profile tirade against Louis van Gaal, claiming his side was a ‘long ball’ team and that West Ham United deserved the win at Upton Park last week, following the Red Devils’ stoppage time equaliser through Daley Blind.

Along with this, the country’s media and football fans alike have attacked United’s style of play and flat attacking potency. It is thought that with the huge outlay the former Netherlands and Barcelona boss spent in summer, his side should produce more exciting football.

Interestingly, it is the Dutchman who may well have the last laugh in this situation as it turns out the Red Devils have been the most successful Premier League side over the last 15 games, having taken 34 points from a possible 45. This total eclipses the 33 taken by Chelsea, Manchester City’s 31 and Tottenham Hotspur’s 29. Arsenal and Liverpool lag somewhat surprisingly behind, having taken only 28 points from the last 45 available.

In this period, van Gaal’s side lost only once, against Southampton, managing to beat three other rivals for a Champions League spot, returning the favour to the Saints along with victories against Liverpool and Arsenal. During November and December the side also won six successive games, a run only bettered by city rivals, Manchester City.

Comparatively, Premier League pacesetters endured a tortuous end to the year having lost to Newcastle United and Tottenham and endured an FA Cup humbling at home to Bradford City.

If the north west side can keep this form up then there should be no doubt that they will be able to take their place back in the Champions League once again, but it remains to seen whether van Gaal can crack consistency at Old Trafford.
