A Hattrick for Romelu Lukaku outshines a red for youngster Stones.
Everton striker Romelu Lukaku was on hot form on Thursday night as a hat trick proved to be enough to help the side set up a much easier looking return leg in Switzerland.
However, the game didn’t start well as the Toffees fell behind after just 10 minutes. A superb Guillaume Hoarau left Tim Howard stranded.
But Lukaku resorted parity just 14 minutes later with a sublime header, clearly showing that the artificial pitch didn’t bother him.
That lead was then doubled four minutes later through Seamus Coleman. The right-back made sure to be in the right place at the right time despite having to stretch to put the ball away.
Romelu Lukaku then recorded his second of the game on 38 minutes. There was more than a hint of offside about his positioning, but the powerful Belgian was given the benefit of the doubt.
