Incidents involving Tottenham’s Jan Vertonghen and Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere are to be cited by the Blues as similar offences that were not punished in the same manner as the Serbian midfielder .

Spurs defender Vertonghen got away with pushing Mark Noble in reaction to a foul on Nabil Bentaleb on the weekend, while the Wilshere’s apparent headbutt on Marouane Fellaini was similarly ignored a couple of months ago.

Nevertheless, Matic still looks likely to miss the Capital One Cup final against Tottenham on Sunday.

The Blues star pushed Burnley forward Ashley Barnes to the floor after a dangerous looking tackle from the Clarets player, which resulted in his red card, which in turn led to manager Jose Mourinho claiming that referees are orchestrating a campaign against his team.
