Manchester United have convinced Valencia starlet Nicolas Otamendi to come to Old Trafford in the summer with a comprehensive wage package and now need only agree a fee with Valencia.
Deporte Valencia claim that the only stumbling block in a potential deal for the centre-back would come over his fee with the Argentine currently restricted by a €50 million release clause.
Whilst that may appear an exorbitant amount, the reports says the Red Devils would have no qualms paying a figure that high if their need for a robust defensive signing continues.
The news comes in the wake of potential interest from fellow Spanish club Atletico Madrid but they wouldn’t be able to offer as high a wage or transfer fee than United.
It would be strange for United to pay so handsomely for Otamendi given the almost hourly updates on their chase for Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels who it seems is cheaper, younger and has been wanted for longer by the Premier League giants.
Safe to say whichever player United is after, the club are definitely attempting to work a defensive signing which will come as welcome relief to fans given some of the laughable displays they’ve seen this season.
