A Michael Dawson effort in the first period proved to be the winner, making it three games without a win for Brendan Rodgers’ men.
The Merseyside outfit, looking to bounce back from the FA Cup semi-final exit against Aston Villa and the 0-0 Premier League draw at West Bromwich Albion, saw plenty of the ball but failed to punish their well-organised opponents.
The outcome piled the pressure on Rodgers, whose side sit seven points behind the Champions League qualification places in fifth position.
