Manchester United will hold talks to sign Athletic Bilbao centre-back Aymeric Laporte this summer as they seek an alternative to Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels in defence.
The Red Devils are known to be keen to improve their options at the back for next season, with Louis van Gaal’s side struggling in that department for much of this campaign.
With a top four place still not certain for this season, it’s clear United need more signings to follow on from van Gaal’s big spending in last year’s summer transfer window.
According to the Metro, Laporte is one of United’s top targets in the central defence position, having shone in La Liga this season and looking like potentially one of the best youngsters in the game at the moment.
The Frenchman could be a good fit at Old Trafford, even if he looks a slightly risky signing given his inexperience and high transfer fee of £29.6m.
